French Revolutionary Art

Hello there, my name is Arthur Brown. I am a 22 year-old college student in Chicago, majoring in Management Information Systems at DePaul University. I was first introduced to French art during my Senior year of High School while taking Advanced Placement European History. I immediately fell in love with the history of the continent, particularly the revolutionary periods in France and the marvelous artworks they inspired. I found myself drawn to the bold use of colors, lighting, and the theatrical nature of the scenes represented. Upon learning of the November 13th terror attacks, I wanted to pay tribute to France in my own special way- by highlighting some of the most profound artistic achievments in French culture. I hope you enjoy these paintings I've selected, and hopefully you'll learn a few things you didn't already know.
