French Revolutionary Art

This painting depicts the revolution of 1848, in which King Louis Phillipe was ousted from power and replaced by Louis Napolean Bonaparte, who was known for his conservative policies. As the last monarch, he also re-stablished the French empire which lasted until 1870. The official title of the painting was "Lamartine in front of the Town Hall of Paris rejects the red flag on 25 February 1848", by Henri Felix Emmanuel Philippoteaux.
