James' Computer Repair
Basic Computer Components
Processor (CPU): The "brains" of the computer, performs the actual computations. It also
generates the most heat out of all the other components. The computer will not boot if the
processor is missing or damaged. Chance of failure: Very Low
Memory (RAM): This is the temporary storage the computer uses. More RAM usually
speeds up the computer, especially if you have many windows open. If your computer
freezes randomly the RAM could be broken. Chance of failure: Low
Hard Drive (HDD): The hard drive stores all the files on a computer, and it is permanent
memory as opposed to RAM, which is temporary. Since it uses a fast spinning disk it is more
likely to fail. If you see "Operating system not found" the hard drive likely has failed.
Chance of failure: High
