Layouts
- Horizontally opposed engine - Has an engine layout where the pistons are lay flat facing opposite of each other. This setup can be designated with the capital letter "H." Porsche and Subaru motor companies mostly use these engines.
- Inline engine - The pistons in this engine layout are setup in a straight line. The designation can also use a capital "I." This is the most commonly used engine layout with a variety of manufactures.
- V-engine - The V shape engine has its pistons sitting in the shape of a "V". The degree of the V depends on the manufacturer. This is the second most common engine layout.
All of these engine layouts are used in a variety of vehicles from aircrafts, watercrafts, bikes and more.
